QED was delighted to be a major sponsor of this year's Illuminating York Festival, supplying six Christie Roadster S+20K projectors for an incredible sound and light installation onto York's Castle Museum created by GaiaNova Productions and United VJs.
Inspired by the former life of the 18th century building as a women's prison and York's rich and diverse history, "Envisions" was specially created for the festival by United VJs and GaiaNova Productions in order to bring the 18th century north façade of the Castle Museum to life. State-of-the-art projection mapping technologies combined with a specially developed soundtrack created a startling and colourful journey through the city's past. The project was realised by a truly international team from UK, Brazil, Serbia, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Poland, combining the visual styles of a number of different artists.
There were several possible ways in which to cover the building with projection, however after carefully considering all options three sets of doubled up S+20Ks worked out to be the best overall solution: The S+20Ks provided both the correct amount of physical coverage and the standard zoom lenses it made it an easy job for them to be doubled up for increased brightness and live back-up.
